“Sister Death”

A print from the original painting by Marcy Hall.

This painting of Sister Death is part of the Holy Disorder of Dancing Monks series, a collaboration between Pennsylvania painter Marcy Hall of Marcy Hall Arts, and author Christine Valters Paintner of Abbey of the Arts, a virtual monastery based in Ireland.

Each vivid print is on acid free, archival quality matte photo paper and measures 5"x10" and is mounted on a 11"x14" matte. The print is hand-signed and titled on the matte.

St. Benedict wrote in his Rule: “Keep death daily before your eyes.” (RB 4:47)
He referred to death as “Sister” in his famous poem Canticle of Creation. Rather than the presence at the end of our lives, death can become a companion along each step, heightening our awareness of life’s beauty and calling us toward living more fully. Living with Sister Death calls us to greater freedom and responsibility. In this painting, Sister Death joyfully leads a group of ancestors on their final journey.
